Lagos—Three more bodies of residents of Otodogbami community, Eti-Osa Local Government,
who drowned last Wednesday during a clash between Yoruba and Egun youths were recovered at the weekend from the lagoon by a search and rescue team constituted by the community.

The three bodies brought the number of corpses recovered from the lagoon behind the community to five.

A resident, who identified himself as Emmanuel disclosed to Vanguard yesterday that the number of residents who drowned were eight including a pregnant woman and her toddler.

He named the victims as: Thoto Avonba, Sesinu Ahiaboji, Mawuyon Oviawe, Hosu Whejede, Misimawu Sogotho, Athanji Sosu Abosede, Babajide Tosihun and Mifinrinfo Esinfo.

He noted that the residents were still hopeful that other bodies will be recovered within few days.

When Vanguard visited the community yesterday, it was gathered that the three bodies were recovered on Friday by the team after an intensive search.

Another resident who did not want his name in print, disclosed that sea creatures had already feasted on the bodies thereby making recognition difficult.

Vanguard also saw relics of churches burnt during the clash which residents alleged was further escalated by policemen deployed to forestall peace in the community.

They lamented that they were not allowed to pick their property before they were either set ablaze or demolished.

Residents embark on protest today

Meantime, the residents have concluded plans to embark on a protest against the burning and demolishing of their structures; an act which Justice and Empowerment Initiatives, JEI, a non governmental organisation, NGO, disclosed that 30, 000 residents had been displaced.

Sources said that the resident had vowed not to stop the protest until they get justice.
