ABUJA—Wife of the Governor of Kogi State, Rashida Yahaya Bello has commenced a welfare initiative targeted at senior citizens of the state in the rural areas.
Tagged: “Grassroots DROP”, Mrs Bello said the scheme is meant to cater for the medical and nutrition needs of aged men and women, who are often abandoned by the society.
Flagging off the scheme in Ege, a remote community in Adavi Local Government Area of the state, Mrs Bello, who was with the wives of local government administrators in the Kogi Central senatorial district and other stakeholders, appealed to well-meaning individuals and groups “to refrain from leaving their aged to die”, urging the people to discard stereotypes which often portray the aged as witches and wizards.
“These class of people are under-served and we have to make conscious efforts to reach out to them in a way that would make them proud of the generation they are leaving behind”, she said.
