PORT HARCOURT: Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, has expressed worries over frequent loss of its transformers to vandals.

Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Mr Jay McCoskey who unveiled the company’s Efficiency program/Online payment platform in Port Harcourt, said they had lost 92 transformers between June and October this year.

While appealing to communities to step up vigilance activities to help secure electricity facilities in their areas Mr McCoskey said the firm had resolved that it will only replace stolen transformers when consumers affected pay 70 percent of their bills and also show payment plan for the balance.

He advised customers against pulling resources together to replace transformers, stressing that all they should do was clear 70 percent of their debts and approach the firm for transformers.

McCoskey said customers could now pay their electricity bills anywhere using the new online payment platform powered by G Pay.

“The coming on stage of the online platform is to compliment other channels of payment. It is very easy and convenient for our customers to pay their bills anytime and anywhere “, he said.

Head Customer Services of the firm, Mr Godwin Orovwiroro who also spoke said the firm suffers a monthly revenue loss of N2.3 billion to energy theft, adding that busy customers should patronise the G Pay platform to ease payment process.
