ABUJA: Women quantity surveyors have said the Federal Government must consider development of cost-effective renewable energy options in view of huge threat to climate by fossil fuels.
President of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, NIQS, Mrs. Mercy Iyortyer, who spoke at a workshop organized by the Women Association of Quantity Surveyors of Nigeria, WAQSN, in Abuja, argued that pursuit for renewable energy provision is most appropriate at this in time in our nation.
Addressing participants at the workshop themed: “The power sector in Nigeria: cost-effective renewable energy provision – issues, challenges and the way forward”, Iyortyer said she has realized that women have come of age to embrace technologies that have the power to impact our daily lives.
Recalling an article in the October 2015 edition of Forbes titled, “Renewable energy is about to boom in Africa”, which informed that a quarter of Africa’s energy will come from renewable in the next decade and a half, she stated the step taken by WAQSN in addressing this topic is a profound testimony of the relevance and contribution that women can bring to the development of Nigerian economy.
She noted that climate experts have been warning for years now that fossil fuels may not last forever and it constitute a huge threat to our climate.
