ENUGU—A widow, Mrs Elizabeth Igbokwe, is crying foul over the sudden withdrawal of her case in court against one Eric Nnamdi by the police in Enugu State.
Mrs Nnamdi complained to the police that Nnamdi obtained about N75,000 and 3,000 Euros from her under false pretences to procure an American visa for her son, who wanted to further his education overseas, adding that the prosecution had finished its evidence before the state Police Commissioner ordered the withdrawal of the matter.
The case was before an Enugu State Chief Magistrate’s Court presided over by Ifeanyi Malachy Mamah, where the complainant, Mrs. Elizabeth Igbokwe accused Nnamdi of obtaining various sums of money in different currencies from her by trickery.
However, the complainant said: “The police prosecutor, ASP Matthew Opara, to the surprise of the court, said he was withdrawing the matter on the orders of the state police commissioner.”
According Magistrate Mamah, “the prosecution told me this morning that they are withdrawing the case, but I don’t know what he is talking about. Let justice be done; if he wins let him go. But I want justice from this court. Court please help me.”
