Gowon: Mine is to see a peaceful Nigeria

THE former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd) and former Finance Minister, Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu, will, on November 24 in Abuja, join other eminent Nigerians to speak on the theme Global Recession as it affects good governance, need for pro-active action, at an event organised by the Centre for Democratic Governance in Africa, CDGA.
At the event, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State and Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State will be given awards for good governance.
Other dignitaries expected at the event are Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Ghana High Commissioner, Williams Azumah-Awinador Kanyirige; and Managing Director of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Olorogun Williams Makinde.
Speaking on the issue during a visit to Vanguard, CDGA Director-General, Dr. Dafe Akpocha and Executive Director, Corporate Gover-nance, Mr. Dan Alabrah, said with good governance and management of resources at all levels, Nigeria will excel without oil.
Akpocha said: “The Federal Government is talking about diversification of the economy. Some governors like Obiano and Bagudu are taking concrete steps on the issue in that direction. We must take concrete steps to diversify the economy. If there is no oil, won’t Nigeria exist as a country?”
