DUTSE—For their inability to submit their Bank Verification Numbers, BVN, as directed by Jigawa State government, Governor Muhammad Abubakar, his deputy, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, and over 30,000 civil servants have been denied their October salary.

Vanguard also gathered some members of the state’s executive council had their names omitted from the salary payment voucher for failure to submit their bank account details to the state government’s salary and pension department.

Speaking to newsmen on the development, the Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Usman Namadi, said: “Those that missed their October salary are the persons that were yet to submit their Bank Verification Number, BVN, to the salary and pension’s department of the Ministry of Finance.”

According to him, the results from the banks showed that out of the 54,000 employees in the state, only 28,132 had been cleared.

He added that the state discovered that about 807 staff had no BVN at all, while 25,000 staff account numbers did not match their BVNs.

He stated that it was further discovered that about 69 employees had their names incomplete, pointing out that about 388 staff were collecting double salaries.

Similarly, he said 284 staff were collecting salaries in Jigawa and outside the state, while 104 were collecting double salaries within the state, bringing the total to 388.

Namadi said: “We are working round the clock to make sure that workers get their October salary, as most of the problems were self-inflicted; workers’ lackadai-sical attitude towards simple laid down rules.”
