The Coalition for Stable Democracy, CSD, an alliance of pro-democracy groups, has urged the  Judiciary to use the opportunity of the current case of the PDP in Ondo state to re-assure the people that democracy can work in the country, by ensuring that justice is done in Eyitayo Jegede’s matter.

Urging the Judiciary to halt what it described as “steps that could derail our democracy by ensuring justice and equity at all times and especially on the Ondo issue” the Coalition said: “Ondo state is currently charged, the tension and what could be the after effect of the injustice done to Jegede if not reversed could spell a national doom.’’

In a statement jointly signed by National Co-ordinator and Secretary respectively Victor Aderibigbe and Abdullahi Sanni, the Coalition said the event of 1983 political crisis in Ondo would be a child’s play, if the judiciary allowed itself to be used to truncate people’s will.

According to the Coalition, “Ondo is a peculiar state, the people have a record of rejecting what they don’t   want not minding the cost. There are records to this effect and the judiciary has a role to play in nipping a potential disaster which may be   waiting to happen in the bud.”

The Group warned of dire consequence should the alleged miscarriage of justice in the ruling delivered by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court Abuja to go without scrutiny.

“Ondo State is a peaceful state, but   the people there should not be taken for granted. With the experience of the political crisis that engulfed the state during the Ajasin/Omoboriowo saga, the Ondo election should be treated with utmost caution “the group warned.
