Policemen attached to the Border Patrol Unit, Ogun State, have arrested a 35-year-old man alleged to be specialist in smuggling Indian hemp to neighbouring countries in the West Africa region.

Allegedly recovered from the suspect identified as Olamilekan Taiwo, were 62 compressed parcel of substance suspected to be Indian hemp concealed inside some clothes.

He was said to be at the verge of crossing to Benin Republic with the substance when the policemen swooped on him.

When accosted, he was said to have explained that he was taking the clothes to neighbouring country to sell.

However, during a search, the suspected Indian hemp which weighed 10kg each, according to the Police, was recovered.

During interrogation, Taiwo was said to have admitted to be taking the substance out of the country and that he had several customers outside.

He said: “I am only an errand boy. I have my contacts both in and outside the country. I hid them inside the clothes and other goods in order to pass freely. But I was unlucky in this case.”

Speaking on the arrest, police sources said that investigation was still ongoing with a view to arresting his accomplices both in and outside the country.

The raid that led to this arrest was led by CSP Victor Badeh and it is one out of several results expected in the coming days.
