Christian Madu has revealed that winning the Nigeria league with Rangers of Enugu has more than made up for going a whole season without playing football after Giwa FC refused to sell him.

Former Supreme Court of Abuja midfielder Madu was refused a move to Rangers by Giwa FC in the 2013/14 season.

He sat out the entire season but was paid salaries by Rangers.

“Rangers were my childhood dream club and so I insisted on staying out for a season so as to play for them. That was my decision and now I’m the happiest man in the world that this has come to pass,” said Madu, whose No.1 fan is his mother.

“It’s a great moment in my life. I still can’t believe what I have achieved. It also shows that hard work pays.”

He also spoke of his first-ever goal in the Nigeria premier league, a super strike as Rangers dumped Rivers United 4-0 in Enugu. It was a powerful shot taken first time from outside the box which gave goalkeeper Abiodun Akande no chance. “My first goal of my career after my ‘wonderful’ mentor and coach (Imama) helped me to score a goal similar to the one I saw Toni Kross score for Real Madrid against Osasuna,” he recalled.

“Before now I was teased by teammates that despite the many goals I have played, I had not scored.”
