If the prediction of heavy rainfall by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency was anything to go by, most residents in Lekki\Ajah, Victoria Island Amukoko among others would have been saved from the flood that ravaged their areas. After the rains which started before wee hours last Sunday and lasted for about seven hours, residents of Lekki\Ajah, Victoria Island, Ikeja, Ebute meta, Igando, Ijora, Ikorodu, Ajegunle\Apapa, Agege, Amukoko, Lagos\ Abeokuta expressway, Agege motor road, Osodi\Apapa expressway, Somolu\Bariga, Agilinti, Agbado\Ijaye, Ipaja\Ayobo and Iseri-Osun\Ijegun saw the ugly side of the downpour watching their personal effects afloat the overflowing water for another two days.

In Agility, Igando Amukoko and Ikorodu especially, the situation was critical as vehicles and houses were submerged in the flood. It was also gathered that the opening of one of Ogun River’s tributaries, Oyan Dam compounded the already worse situation.

A victim Mr. Remi Ewa in Lekki\Ajah axis said he was devastated and cold, when he saw the force of the flood. “I was apprehensive thinking that the world has ended as it began to rain heavily. My neighbours could not go to church a they were busy salvaging their property from the flood.”

On LASU-Isheri road, residents had terrible experiences trying to find their way into safety, while places like Igbogbo\Ebute road, Igbogbo\Bayeku road, Sagamu\Ikorodu road, Isawo, Igbe road, Ofin\Oreta, Benson-Garage and Owutu were completely submerged hindering both human and vehicular movements.

Ajah, Badore road, Ajah round\about and VGC were not different. Traders, artisans, hawkers had to suspend trading and services mot most part of the day. At Ewedogbon end of LASU\Isheri road, about 10 buildings were affected including Grocery Bazaar plaza and a new generation Church.

A resident, Tosin Makanju said some residents have abandoned their homes, saying, “we had to flee when our homes were submerged and yet the rains continued.”

Residents were however unanimous in their call for effective drainage and water channel system, clearing of the canal and other water carriage ways.
