The Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas has called on corporate Nigeria to join hands with government in repositioning sports in the country.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 7th Chief of Naval Staff Swimming Championships in Lagos, on Wednesday, the Navy chief who was represented by the Flag Officer, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Ferguson Bobai said the annual swimming championship, which is the flagship event in the calendar of the Nigeria Aquatic Federation, was aimed at providing a platform for young Nigerian swimmers to exhibit their skills and become useful for themselves and country in future.
“From what I am seeing in this championships, the future is bright,”he said, and called on corporate Nigeria to join hands with the Nigeria Aquatic Federation to develop the sport in Nigeria.
He said that swimmers who excel in the championship would be selected for regional and continental championships. He called on the participants to put in their best.
Meanwhile, events will continue today at the Teslim Balogun Stadium swimming pools with competitions in both the senior and junior categories.
