KADUNA—Twenty years after Kaduna State got its first Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, in Emmanuel John Toro, Barrister Elisha Yakubu Kurah, last Monday, became its fourth SAN, sparking jubilation among legal professionals in the state, his community, family and friends.
Kurah, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, who was called to the bar in 1985, has now joined three lawyers from Southern Kaduna, who had bagged the distinguished legal title 41 years after Chief Rotimi Williams became the first Nigeria SAN.
The others are Markus Yarkasua Saleh and Yahaya Mahmud, who has passed on.
Speaking at a reception held in his honour at Merit House, Abuja, yesterday, Kurah, who hails from Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State with Toro, said he had a humble beginning as a village lad.
He said he chose to be a lawyer to prove to the world that an individual’s background should not be a hindrance to his aspirations in life.
Festus Okoye (Esq.), a renowned constitutional lawyer and Chairman, Transition Monitoring Group, TMG, described Kurah as a hard-working lawyer who has paid his dues in the legal profession.
