A 34-year-old employee of a thrift collection company, CNN Credit Limited, Jackson Umem, who was alleged to have fraudulently obtained N1 million from customers, appeared before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos Island, Wednesday.
The defendant, who is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and theft preferred against him by the police, pleaded not guilty and was granted N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ben Ekundayo, alleged that the incident occurred between July 1 and August 1 in Lagos.
He said that Umem, obtained the said sum from market women and customers of the company, under the pretext of helping them lodge the money into their account but converted the money to his personal use.
