There is no debate as to which cable television  network is the number one entertainment provider in Nigeria. Multichoice Nigeria, through its subsidiaries such as the DStv and Supersports in particular, have elevated sports broadcasting to Olympian heights. This has impacted positively on the citizens and their lives have never been the same again.

For those who do not know, Supersport is not limited to television. There is also a website that carries the latest sports news. Thousands of hits are recorded each day.

Covering the Olympics in Brazil is a hectic job. It is practically impossible to be at every event venue. On the day Nigeria and Denmark were playing in Salvador, some of us who could not make the 36-hour trip from Rio were at Pavilion 3 at the Olympic Park to watch Efe Ajagba box against Trinidad & Tobago champion, Nigel Paul. How then were we able to follow the Nigerian match?

My colleague, George Aluo then remembered he could get us follow the match in Salvador minute by minute on  his tablet. He brought out his tablet and before you knew it, he went straight to the Supersport website and there was the match streaming minute by minute. We followed it to the end of the first half. We left the boxing arena and got to the International Press Centre where we watched the remaining part of the second half alongside other Nigerian journalists.
