Farmers in Jigawa state have been promised of buy back of their excess produce by the state government after harvesting this season as the farmers expect bumper harvest.

Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who made the promise while inspecting the out grower Rice and groundnut farms in company of  Aliko Dangote at Raina Village in Kafinhausa local government area over the weekend, said the government is already in talk with investors that would set up  processing  industries for the farmers’ produce.

Impressed by what he saw at the rice farms visited, Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar  said food security of the state is assured adding that  food shortages will soon be something of  history going by what he saw on the fields of all the farms he inspected.

According to the Governor, under the present dispensation, both the state and the national governments have similar intention of not only making Nigeria to be food self reliant but also exporter of food items like the Asian Tiger nations.

One of the farmers, whose farm was also inspected by the Governor, Alhaji  Adamu Uzeru Sarawa,  disclosed that he cultivated 12 hectares of groundnut, 15 hectares of Sesame and 20 hectares of rice respectively.

He explained that they have been  following  the directives and demonstration given to them  by the Agriculture  extension workers deplored by the state government, “with the mobilization of the extension workers with  motor cycles, they were able to go round farms to teach farmers  new techniques on modern farming.
