ABEOKUTA-The Ewusi of Makun, Sagamu, Oba Timothy Akinsanya has said that no traditional ruler has the authority to speak on the passage rites of the late Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remoland , Oba Micheal Sonariwo.

Ewusi in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, urged the people in the country to await update by the Remo traditional Council.

Akarigbo, who was until his death, chairman of Ogun State Council of Obas, died at the age of 80.

The accountant turned monarch , who ascended the throne on July 14, 1990 joined his ancestors Saturday evening in United Kingdom where he was flown to on July 17 after a brief illness.

Oba Sonariwo born on July 28, 1936, became the Akarigbo in July and also died in July in the presence of one of his wives .

Ewusi in his statement said he was saddened over the death of the late Akarigbo, saying, the passage rites would soon be announced by Re o Traditional Council.

According to him, it is beyond the power of any traditional Royal father to delegate any role as regards the passage rites of the late paramount ruler of the Remo Kingdom, but, the sole responsibility of the Remo traditional Council.

“However, we acknowledge the fact that the Remo Traditional Council would appreciate the support of the Ogun State government in ensuring a hitch-free passage rites procedure for the Akarigbo even, as asserted that the Remo sons and daughters home and abroad have risen to the course.

“We appeal to all Remo indigenes to embrace peace and orderliness during and after the process of the passage rites”.

The monarch however, clarified the media report that he spoke with Olori Abosede who broke the news of the death of Akarigbo to him, saying, he never spoke with Olori Abosede but, another wife of the late monarch.

He also said, he did not know the age of the paramount ruler and could not have told anyone about the age of the late paramount ruler who he described as vibrant before he died.
