Lagos—Worried by the continued activities of militants, Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwan Akiolu and the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Garuba Akinola, yesterday urged Niger Delta Avengers and other militants to sheathe their swords.

They made the appeal after the two-rakat Eid-il-Fitri prayers at the Dodan Barracks, Obalende, Lagos, which also had in attendance the majority leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, Commissioner of police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, the Baba Adinni of Lagos, Alhaji Abdullahi Abou, former Lagos State Micro-finance institution, LASMI boss, Mr. Alabi Macford and others.

Akiolu, who expressed dissatisfaction with the militants’ actions said “All these bombing and anti-government activities are not good for this country.”

The Oba argued “And for those who have any grievances against the government, I am appealing to them to sheathe their sword and follow the legitimate path in channelling their claim.

“We are appealing to them to stop all the anti-human activities they have embarked upon. And let us work together to develop this country. Living in peace and harmony will help to strengthen country’s economy,” he added.

Also, Akinola urged Muslims to shun violence, extremism and all forms of terrorism and live in peace and harmony often, saying “Islam is all about peace and Muslims in Nigeria should make themselves known to the world as people of peace.”

The cleric however condemned the bomb explosion that rocked the holy city of Medina, Saudi Arabia on Monday, saying; “Its inhuman, ruthless and un-islamic.”
