ABUJA—Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign and Domestic Debts, Senator Shehu Sani, has praised the Communist Party of China, CPC, describing it as a “role model” for political parties in Nigeria.

The lawmaker, who also doubles as Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, was speaking during the commemoration of the party’s 95th anniversary in Abuja.Sani said the fact that CPC had not only survived for over nine decades but also played a leading role in the socio-political and economic development of China should be an inspiration to all.

He, therefore, advocated that political perspective in Nigeria, and, indeed, Africa, should be guided by principles and ideology, noting that parties in the continent could not last because they were not founded on ideology.

”We should found parties based on ideologies and ideals.

Parties must not be an extension of an individual’s interest. ‘’It should collectively represent our interest and also be a platform for the pursuit of our common goals,” he said.

He said having political parties with no clear ideology made it easier for an individual to be a member of one party in the morning and become member of another in the evening. This, he noted, hindered political development in the country.
