Foreign Affairs Ministry staff murmur over envoys’ list

President Muhammadu Buhari

ABUJA—Fresh facts are emerging over the list of the ambassador-nominees recently sent to the National Assembly for approval by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari had sent a list of 47 ambassador-nominees to the Senate for confirmation.

Investigations by Vanguard, however, revealed that most staff in the ministry have been unhappy over what they described as a “shady deal” in the selection process.

A reliable source in the ministry told Vanguard that the first list of diplomats prepared in the ministry was jettisoned through power-play.

According to him, besides the fact that half of the names of the nominees from the ministry were removed from the list, some states were not represented in the list that is before the Senate.

“For example, Plateau and Bayelsa states are not represented,” the source said.

Contacted, spokesman for the ministry, Dr. Clement Aduku, said only the minister could respond to the issue.
