Lagos—THE Tin-Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, (NCS), weekend intercepted three twenty-feet containers carrying sub-standard cables and wires.
Although, Customs could not ascertain the value of the sub-standard import but a source close to the service told Vanguard that the Duty Paid Value of the suspected cargo could run into millions of Naira.
The cables and wires were positioned for examination at the Tin-Can Island Container Terminal when officials of the service invited the Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON, which confirmed that the cables and wires were sub-standard.
Speaking during hand-over of the containers to officials of SON, Customs Area Comptroller of the command, Mr. Yusuf Bashir said collaboration among sister agencies helped the detection of the prohibited and sub-standard cargoes.
