BENIN—All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, has said that there was no evidence linking the state governor, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, to the shooting that occurred at Auchi, when his deputy, Dr Pius Odubu, visited the area to meet with APC delegates.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Godwin Erhahon, the party commended the intervention of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, who took over the investigation of the case, expressing optimism that the perpetrators will be arrested.

Reacting to the recent change in the leadership of the state House of Assembly, the party described the development as a “spontaneous reaction by majority of the members to the internal affair of the House.  It was not instigated by any individual or group outside the House.

“There is no proof that the state government had a hand in the recent attack on the deputy governor’s pre-governorship primary campaign team at Auchi.  APC commends the Inspector-General of Police for taking over the investigation of the incident.

“It was not Governor Oshiomhole who accused his Deputy, Dr Odubu, of attempting to hire a voodooist to kill him. Rather, the governor, in good spirit, disclosed to his deputy what an informant had alleged.

“Attempts to get the informant to confront Dr. Odubu with evidence of the allegation are yet to yield results. The above clarifications have become necessary to diffuse the tension being generated by the antics of those attempting to create a gulf between the governor and his deputy,”  the statement said.
