CALABAR— PENTECOSTAL Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, has called on the Federal Government to  arrest and prosecute all gun-wielding Fulani herdsmen who have been ravaging different parts of the country to stem the tide of violence perpetrated by them.

Pastor Lawrence Ekwok, Chairman, Cross River PFN, who stated this in  a communiqué, yesterday, called on the Inspector General of Police to arrest and immediately prosecute the perpetrators of what he called “heinous crimes.”

“The Inspector General of Police should, as a matter of urgent national interest, arrest and prosecute all gun-carrying Fulani herdsmen, as carrying arms without licence violates the laws of the land,” he said.

He said that the fellowship rejects the bill for the establishment of a National Grazing  Reserve across the country which, he argued, was tantamount to illegal seizure of landed property from indigenous people by the Federal Government for private business.

He called on all National Assembly members from the state to resist the National Grazing Reserve bill in view of its negative consequences on the economy and lives of people of the state.

“PFN Cross River calls on various state legislatures to enact legislation against free movement of destructive animals such as cows in their states,” he added.

He  also condemned plans by the Federal Government to fund federal budget deficit with a loan  from Islamic Bank, arguing that such action  would contravene the secularity of Nigeria.
