OWERRI—The Imo State correspondent of Channels Television, Mr. Tope Kutiyi, who was kidnapped last Monday, was released unharmed by his captors yesterday.

Vanguard gathered that soon after the hoodlums made the initial contact with their captive’s relations and made a N15 million demand, the security agencies pin-pointed their location and swung into action.

Confirming this development to Vanguard on telephone, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, personally led the operation for the journalist’s rescue.

Vanguard gathered that the hoodlums, numbering about seven, took Kutiyi’s work tools, such as laptop and mobile phone.

He said: “The CP led a 100-man squad for the rescue. It took them into the huge forest at Ohoba in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.”
