lagos—A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday, awarded N400,000 cost against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for not issuing Permanent Voters Card to a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Chijioke Emeka.
Trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba also ordered the electoral umpire to immediately issue the PVC to the plaintiff.
The lawyer, who was deprived of the PVC before the last general election, after he had completed the registration and data capturing process, had sued INEC, claiming damages.
The plaintiff in the suit, complained that INEC had failed to issue him his PVC even though he registered to vote and was issued with a voter’s card.
He had prayed the court to compel INEC to issue him with a PVC to enable him to vote in the 2015 election. The suit could not be concluded before the elections.
