Lagos—A 76-year-old  man, John Orimogunje, who allegedly presented himself as a land speculator and obtained the sum of N8 million from two women, was yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

The septuagenarian, whose address was not given is facing a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, false representation, obtaining, stealing and insurance of dud cheques preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, Inspector Haruna Ibrahim, told the court that the defendant and others, who are still at large, committed the alleged offences between January and August 2014.

He said that the defendant sometime in January 2014, at Ikota Shopping Complex Victoria Garden City Lekki, obtained the said sum from one Mrs Ejiro Imafidon and Mrs Emili Iwere, after falsely presenting himself as a land speculator to the complainants.

Ibrahim, also alleged that the defendant at the same place on June 30, 2014, issued Skye Bank Plc postdated cheque in the sum of N3 million. In the name of Mrs Emilia Iwere as payment for the said money he was owing her, adding that when the cheque was presented for payment, it was rejected due to insufficient funds in his account.

The prosecutor, further alleged that on July 21, 2014, at Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan Lagos, the defendant issued a Zenith Bank Plc postdated cheque in the sum of N2.5million in the name of Mrs Ejiro Imafidon as payment of the money he owed her, which was dis-honoured when it was presented for payment.
