UMUAHIA—THE acting Executive Chairman of Abia State Universal Basic Education [ASUBEB], Mr. Ugochukwu Nwosu has said that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu introduced Education for Employment (E-E) programme in the state school system as a way of curbing social ills such as armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, among others.

According to him, the programme emphasizes training entrepreneurship and learning trades which equips the pupils and students for self employment to keep them busy and will not have time to engage in any social ills.
He said: “Because Aba is a commercial nerve centre and Aba is an entrepreneurship hub in the map of the world, the governor found out that the best approach to education is to provide entrepreneurship education so that the younger ones will grow to be self-reliant even at a young age.
“These things will help to cut down societal vices like armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and and they will aspire to develop into well trained successful person”, Nwosu said.
According to him, the Government has shown a lot of interest in the development of education in the state with the view to making the State the best state in the education sector.
Nwosu also noted the novel area of running education in the state with Ikpeazu’s introduction of “Friends of the school initiative”, where his friends and corporate bodies are encouraged to pick schools in bad shapes to rebuild them.
He said the programme has so far worked as “people in Diaspora are now picking interest to visit their alma mater and construct structures”, pointing out that the governor has also promised in other areas like provision of school uniforms and shoes.
Meanwhile, the acting executive secretary has disclosed that the government’s free meal programme for pupils may take off next month.
