Tragedy struck, Monday, at Amukoko area of Lagos State, when a drunk driver ran over five persons with his Mercedes Benz190, number plates EPE 471CD, killing one and injuring others.

A policeman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the man was drunk and an alcoholic drink (name withheld) was found in his car.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the story, saying a driver rammed into five persons. She said one of the victims, Mariam Raji, died while four others were still receiving treatment at the General Hospital.

She said: “One Azeez Raji of Alafia Street, Amukoko, reported that one Eugene Nweke, a driver of Mercedes Benz, I90 with number plates, EPE 471 CD, lost control and ran over five victims.

“The victims are Mariam Raji, Angel Anusiem, Mahammed Sani and Kafayat. They were rushed to the hospital where Mariam Raji gave up the ghost.  Her body has been deposited at the morgue.

She said the driver was drunk, adding “we are continuing with investigations into the cause of the accident.”
