At a time when most Nigerian youths are angry with society for failing them, old students of the mission school, Evangel College, Okokomaiko (2005 set) recently returned with gratitude, donating books worth hundreds of thousands of naira to the school library. It was an occasion that availed seasoned educationists the opportunity to diagnose the problems afflicting education in the country.

Speaking at the occasion, Mrs. Mercy Okorie, represented by the Vice Principal, Mr. Egwu Moses, lamented the sorry state of education in the country. She said lack of motivation for teachers, decayed infrastructure, and moral decadence among students, have contributed to the fallen standard of education in Nigeria.

“The challenge of educational system in the country is numerous. Stakeholders, parents and students are involved. Teachers who are everybody’s mentors in the society are not motivated through proper welfare. Salaries are not paid as when due and promotions do not come as expected.
