The Lagos State House of Assembly has ordered the Provost of the Michael Otedola College of Education to release the results of its students in Ijoria/Badia Centre that had been withheld since 2011/2012.

According to a petition titled: “Letter of Assistance On Our Long-Time Awaiting Result From Michael Otedola College of Primary Education,” the aggrieved students of the centre stated that they had not received their statement of results despite having submitted their exams scripts to one Mr. Wale, the then co-ordinator of the centre, who notified them of the readiness of their results.

The students, who said they started their programme in 2008/2009, expressed surprise that despite their calls for the result, they have not received any response from the school.

The Education Committee of the House, which presented a report on the floor of the House yesterday, through its Chairman, Olanrewaju Ogunyemi, said that the Director of the Programme, Dr. Olaleye G.O told the committee that the college ran a centralised system and that the petition submitted by the students was as a result of mis-information and poor orientation.

He reportedly told the Committee that the academic session 2011/2012 in question was not concluded in 2012, but in the first quarter of 2014 contrary to the normal academic calendar due to non-compliance by the co-ordinator and students, who did not meet the standards and requirements set by the institution.

The committee stated that Olaleye emphasised that the results are ready, but that the College would take extra caution in ensuring that results are released to only eligible students, that is, those who have met the conditions stated by the school.

The Committee Chairman said that the Provost of the College, Professor Olu Akeusola told them that the students had a peculiar problem because the former Co-ordinator, Otunba Olayomi embezzled the centre’s school fees and that lack of proper documentation from the centre by the said co-ordinator was another issue, adding that the school was magnanimous in marking, computing and compiling the results without adequate funds from the centre.

The House subsequently accepted the recommendations of the committee that the centre’s co-ordinator should liaise with the Director of Part-Time studies for release of results after proper documentation.

It was also recommended that the students should fulfill all necessary pre-requisites as stipulated by the College in order to access their results and that the communication gap between the College and its affiliated centres should be bridged.

The Assembly also directed that the College should centralize the method of payment of fees from the various centres in order to forestall cases of misappropriation/embezzlement of funds in future.
