Amata, Women 4×4 offer last hope

Nigeria’s last chance of winning a medal at the IAAF World Indoors rests on the women’s 4x400m and high jumper, Dorren Amata as the curtains close on the championships today in Portland Oregon, USA.
Shot Putter Stephen Mozia and sprinter Ogho-Oghene Egwero who held a little bit of hope for the country failed to find their form. Egwero ran 6.75 seconds, which was not good enough to see him to the final of the 60m dash won by Trayvon Bromell in 6.47 seconds. In the Shot Put throw Mozia placed 12th after two attempts fetched him 19.84m. The event was won by construction worker Tom Walsh with 21.78m to become the first New Zealander to win gold in 16 editions of the world indoors.
Today, Amata with a season best of 1.93m is in contention for gold in women high jump. But she would have to put up her best ever to beat front front runners like Spain’s Ruth Beitia and Vashti Cunningham of the USA.
The Women 4x400m on paper with their personal best of 3.29.67 seconds have the chance to win a medal if they get their acts right. They have USA and Jamaica to contend with.
