Detained Ekiti lawmaker, sick not dead

Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have cried to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and Amnesty International over the refusal of the Department of State Services (DSS) to obey the court order directing the immediate release of a member of the House of Assembly, representing Efon Constituency, Hon. Afolabi Akanni.

Afolabi Akanni, the Ekiti State Assembly lawmaker in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) custody has been confirmed to be alive.

Akannni who represents Efon constituency at the state’s assembly  was had been in the DSS detention since March 4 was on Thursday paraded by the security agents before journalists in Abuja.

Recall that earlier on Thursday, the Ekiti state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi speaking at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti claimed Akanni had died in DSS custody.

He said he died on Thursday morning after taking ill in detention.

However, from the appearance of the detained lawmaker, Vanguard gathered that he is in poor health condition.
