ABUJA—Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea have signed an agreement on establish-ment of a joint Maritime Policing and Security Patrol Committee.

A statement by the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said the signing was done in Malabo, capital of the Central African country yesterday.

The agreement would enhance security in the Gulf of Guinea and also help in curbing maritime crimes, such as piracy, crude oil theft, sabotage of oil rigs and arms smuggling.

It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari left Abuja on Monday for Malabo for the bilateral agreements.

A communiqué at the end of President Buhari’s visit to Malabo stated that both countries also agreed to discuss greater cooperation on oil and gas production  and a bilateral trade agreement.

Meanwhile, Buhari returned to Abuja after the state visit, yesterday.
