Osinbajo, Oshiomhole, others storm Kano for Textile workers’ confab

KANO—VICE President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, will tomorrow lead three state governors, including Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State to the 11th Quadrennial National Delegates’ Conference, NDC, of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, taking place in Kano State.

While the other two governors are Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano and Mallam Nair El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Emir of Kano, His Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II, will be the Royal Father of the day.

Also expected are the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, Ministers of Industry, Trade and Investment, Information, NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, TUC President, Bobboi Bala Kaigama, Presidents and General Secretaries of fraternal industrial unions, Director General, Nigeria Textile, Garment and Tailoring Employers Association, NTGTEA, Mr. Hamma Kwajaffa and other captains of industry.

General Secretary of IndustriALL Global Union, Geneva, Switzerland, Jyrki Raina, Regional Secretary, IndustriALL Global Union, Sub Sahara Africa, Fabian Nkomo, General Secretary, Ghana Mine Workers Union, Prince William Ankrah, General Secretary, Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union, SACTWU, Andre Kriel, General Secretary, National Union of Mine Workers, South Africa, Ko ekile David Sipunzi among others will also grace the event..

A statement by the union’s General Secretary, Issa Aremu, said the theme of the conference is Labour and Industry: Back To Basics.”

According to him: “Textile industry is a strategic non-oil industry which in spite of its depressed state is still largest private sector employer of labour after government. This conference offers another opportunity to compliment President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign promise with respect to industrialization, textile revival and job creation. To this extent, the conference is of national and international significance in promoting awareness about industry protection, employment generation and decent work.”
