The lawmaker representing Ojo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Obasa has lauded Nigerian Women for their positive roles in nation building.

International Women’s Day (March 8) which has been observed since early 1900’s is a day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.The theme for this year (2016) ” Planet 50-50 by 2030: step it up for gender equality”.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Opeyemi Ahmed, the lawmaker urged Nigerian Women to work with the vision and mission of the theme to ensure the deadline is met for parity in the land.

Obasa, a gender friendly lawmaker, adumbrated the notable roles of great Nigerian Women like Mrs Fumilayo Ransome Kuti, Mrs Margaret Ekpo, Mrs Stella Adedovah, Mrs Dora Akunyili and many others.

He urged Nigerian Women to use the humanitarian activities of past women leaders to champion for 50:50 in all facets of governance.

In the same vein, the lawmaker urged President Muhammadu Buhari to work in tandem with the theme of this year and also diligently to ensure the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Furthermore, Obasa applauded the President for appointing a woman, Mrs Adejoke Adefulire as the Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals.
