Ibadan—Protest by non-academic staff unions of the University of Ibadan  has forced the institution to put on hold its planned matriculation ceremonies for the 2015/2016 academic session earlier scheduled for today.

The angry workers who protested non-remittance of deductions and unpaid agreed allowances also compelled the institution’s management to bring to an abrupt end an orientation programme being organised for new entrants at the International Conference Centre of the institution.

While fleeing the venue of the programme some of the newly-admitted students were said to have been injured.

While explaining the reason for the suspension of matriculation that would have been held for about 3,500, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Idowu Olayinka,  said safety of the students was more important than the temporary suspension of the matriculation ceremony.
