lagos—The installation of the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, as new Chancellor of the University of Lagos, will hold today as he succeeds the Attah of Igala, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Aliyu Obaje.
Meantime, 112 students graduated with first class honours, yesterday, at the second phase of the university’s 2015 convocation ceremony held at the Multi Purpose Hall, Akoka, Campus, Lagos.
Speaking on the second day of the convocation, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rahamon Bello, said; ‘’The third and final day of the ceremony will witness the installation ceremony of the new Chancellor of the University of Lagos.”
According to him, the new Chancellor, a first class traditional leader in Nigeria, a philanthropist, will also award postgraduate degrees to successful students for the postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctors of Philosophy.
The royal father, who arrived Lagos Tuesday evening, was warmly welcomed by the UNILAG community and many northerners in Lagos, as traditional dancers and trumpeters sang his praise.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,887 students graduated from the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Law and Pharmacy. Bello stated that 112 out of 2,887 graduating students made first class honours in their various disciplines.
In the breakdown, the Vice Chancellor said; ‘’Thirty-eight (38) of these were from Faculty of Business Administration, Forty-one (41) from Faculty of Engineering, One (1) from Faculty of Law, Four (4) from Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, six (6) from Faculty of Clinical Sciences and ten (10)from Faculty of Pharmacy.’’
Also, he noted that 12 graduands made First Class Honours from the Distance Learning Institute (DLI.)
