Abeokuta—A member of Ogun state House of Assembly representing Ijebu-Ode constituency Wale Alausa has lamented the non-payment of eleven months stipends due of traditional leaders otherwise called ‘Olorituns’ in Ijebu area of the state.
The lawmakers who disclosed this at a plenary held in the state House of Assembly, the Olorituns have not been paid for over eleven months despite their unique roles in the development and security of the people in their local areas.
Alausa said the Olorituns are equivalent to Baales in Yorubaland and also serve as head of security groups or vigilante groups in their local areas.
He however, pleaded that, the state House of Assembly to investigate the matter with a view to finding everlasting solution to the non-payment of stipends due to them.
According to him, “ I appeal to the house to find a lasting solution to the non-payment of stipend to the Olorituns who have been working tirelessly to develop and also make sure life and property of the people in their area are well protected.
“it will be recalled that, the Olorituns have not been paid eleven month salaries despite their unique roles in their local areas”.
The speaker of the house of Assembly, Suraj Adekunmbi assured that the matter will be looked into, saying quick solution will be made.
