Rivers State Government has urged the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure that next month’s re-run National Assembly election  in the state was credible and peaceful.

Also, the new Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr Aniede Ikoiwak, has said that the electoral body will use card readers for the re-run election slated for March 19.

Ikoiwak, who spoke during an interactive session with the political parties, yesterday, at the INEC office in the state,  said incident forms will be used to complement card readers in special situations approved by the electoral body.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Commissioner for Information  and Communication, Dr Austin Tam-George, who spoke in Lagos, also  called “On all Nigerians and the international community to challenge INEC and the All Progressives Congress, APC, government to hold free, fair and conclusive rerun polls in the state.”

He said the appeal stems from what he termed APC’s ‘’political fundamentalism, its obsession to vanquish the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,’’ and the prevailing wave of inconclusive elections in recent times.
