Residents of Mosafejo village in Oshodi area of Lagos State have cried out over the demolition of their houses by Lagos State government.

The protesters, chanting solidarity songs, had placards with inscriptions such as “We are now homeless,” “This is not the change we voted for,” and “Please save our community” among others.

Calling on the Speaker of the state assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, the Mosafejo residents lamented that the agents of the Ministry of Physical and Urban Planning invaded and demolished their properties before the expiration of the seven-day notice given them to vacate their houses.

The community also called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, senator and lawmakers representing the area to come to their aid and restore their properties.

In a protest letter dated February 8, entitled Invasion/Demolition of Mosafejo Village, Oshodi by Lagos State Government: A Call for Justice, the community called on the state government to give attention to the internally-displaced people.

The letter, addressed to the Speaker, was signed by Mr. Buna Olaitan of Human Rights Monitoring Agenda, HURMA.

Olaitan called on Ambode and the Assembly to give immediate attention to the residents and compensate the affected people.
