ILORIN—Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has commissioned, Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, mandating it to generate not less than N5 billion monthly as against the paltry N100 million being generated.

The governor said this became necessary to meet the state financial challenges in the midst of the dwindling federal monthly allocation that has fallen from N3.5 bilion to N1.4 billion.

Present were captains of industries in the state, traditional rulers, artisans, various transport unions, owners of various private schools and tertiary  institutions, bankers and other stakeholders being targeted for tax payments.

Speaking at the commissioning of the edifice for the staff, the governor noted that the aim “is to ensure that Kwara state is economically viable and self-sufficient, rising from our current position to achieve the second highest IGR per capita in Nigeria by 2019.”
