ABUJA—Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State is to release over N1billion to about 300 indigenes of his state who have been displaced by the demolition exercise in the Federal Capital Territory .

The Governor gave the pledge yesterday through Engr. Ben Ukpong, the President of the Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja, as its Eket membership gave a resounding support to Rep. Eseme Eyiboh representing Eket Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State for a second shot at the House of Representatives, after the lawmaker gave an “Account of his Stewardship” in the National Assembly.

At its meeting in Abuja, the Chairman of the community told the members that the total sum billed for release to victims of demolition in the capital is N1.04billion, representing a compensation for over 300 people displaced in the capital city.

Mr. Ukpong said the sum only represented the first and second batches of demolition victims, as more funds were being negotiated for release to other members displaced from some satellite towns within the FCT.

The President of the association, while delivering the message at the meeting, rallied the membership in support of the Governor of the State, whom he extolled as a “man of ideas and compassion”.
