PORT HARCOURT— Former Chairman, Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty Eze Robinson Robinson, has called for the necessary political will to end the challenges of cultism in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of the state.

The monarch who spoke against the backdrop of recent invasion of Ahoada East council by suspected cultists which resulted in the death of about 14 youths, said there was urgent need for the political class to take decisive steps to put an end to the monster in the area.

Urging the newly constituted Ekpeye Peace and Security Committee put in place to promote peace in the council to do its best in the anti-cult war, the monarcho lauded the effort of the Police in the struggle to rid the areas of cult related challenges.

He assured that the newly inaugurated peace and security committee would work with the police and other security agencies to redress the challenges of cultism in the areas.

He said: “We, in collaboration with the police, other security agencies and the chairmen of Ahoada East and Ahoada West councils, put in place a local vigilante to work with the police. We even put in place a Peace and Security Committee to arrest the degenerating situation, but the political will to make it active it was lacking. Security so degenerated that the economy of the area also collapsed. Though there may be some bad eggs in the rank and file of the police who colluded with the hoodlums, the Police is doing its best on a general note.”
