A-Court ruling: Bayelsa Assembly yet to swear in ADC candidate

By Emem Idio

YENAGOA—AFTER being declared the duly elected member of Bayelsa State House of Assembly representing Ogbia Constituency 3, by the Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in December, checks at the state Assembly reveal that Mr. Gabriel Ogbara, of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, is yet to take his oath of office.

The appellate court had annulled the April 11, 2015 state Assembly victory of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ms. Naomi Ogoli and declared the ADC candidate, Gabriel Ogbara as the duly elected member of the state Assembly and directed the withdrawal of the Certificate of

Return issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to the PDP candidate, while also ordering it to issue a Certificate of Return and swear-in the ADC candidate as the duly elected member of the Assembly.

While INEC has issued the ADC candidate a certificate of return, the state House of Assembly is yet to obey the directive of the appellate court to swear him in as a member of the House.
