Properties worth millions of Naira destroyed

ABAKALIKI—Eight family members in Ohufu village, Ogboji community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State weekend lost their lives in a fire outbreak that occurred at 3am in the community.
Those who lost their lives following the fire disaster include a woman and her seven children while the husband, Sylvanus Nwefuru and one of their children, Ukamaka Nwefuru survived the inferno.
The fire outbreak razed two thatched houses where the family members were sleeping as properties worth millions of naira were also destroyed by the inferno.
Sylvanus Nweferu, an 80-year-old man who told Vanguard that he heard a loud noise while deeply asleep noted that he woke up suddenly and saw his place of abode on fire.
One of the survivors, Ukamaka Nwefuru revealed that her mother who rescued her and went into the fire to save another member of the family was caught by the inferno where she unfortunately lost her life.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ishielu local government area, Henry Eze called on security agents to investigate the cause of the inferno and solicited more cooperation among the people in the community to avert future incident.
