Former Super Eagles stars, Austin Jay Jay Okocha and Victor Ikpeba have taken contrasting positions on the performance of the Super Eagles and coach Sunday Oliseh at the CAF African Nations Championship in Rwanda.

Nigeria was bundled out of the tournament in the preliminary stages and coach Oliseh attributed it to the low morale of the players who suffered according to him, from lack of motivation.

Okocha, said the defeat mustn’t dampen the spirit of the players and coaches, but rather they should get back on track; adding that Oliseh remains the best man for the job.

“We are going through a rough period, but there’s nothing to be ashamed of. We just need to battle back and get back to where we belong.

“ We can’t judge Oliseh by the outcome of CHAN, rather we should encourage and support him; let him do his thing and hopefully he’s the right person to take us to where we want to be,” Okocha told a local website.

But Ikpeba stated that Oliseh should accept full responsibility for the team’s failure, rather than play the blame game.

“ It’s unfortunate to hear the comments from Oliseh and some of the players on the issue of motivation. I think the NFF has done a good job, they took the team to Pretoria for preparation before the tournament.

“We all know the Federation has financial challenges. So instead of complaining about lack of motivation, they should have taken a cue from the U-17 and U-23. They had financial problems yet won the tournaments; we shouldn’t forget that Siasia’s mother was kidnapped also.”

He urged Oliseh to focus on qualifying Nigeria for the 2017 Afcon qualifiers with a must win game against Egypt.
