PORT HARCOURT—Men of the Nigerian Navy and some policemen clashed, yesterday, on the busy GRA Junction on Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Innocent motorists were reportedly molested while the fracas lasted. Teargas canisters was freely fired by some of the security men.

Vanguard gathered that trouble started when some Navy men, who were escorting a senior officer got stuck in the traffic around the busy junction.

It was not clear what happened but suddenly there was exchange of hot words between men of the Navy and the plainclothes policemen, who were reportedly at the junction controlling traffic.

“The next thing we saw was teargas fired by the security men. It forced many to run for safety,” an eye witness said.

It could not be confirmed if there was casualty.  But the Police image maker in the state, Mr Ahmad Muhammad said, there was no casualty  adding that the matter had been resolved.
