The maiden Gulder Five-a-side soccer tournament will begin in April with a N5m top prize up for grabs for the participating teams drawn from across the country.
Representatives of the beverage drink announced in Lagos that participation is open to non-registered players of the Nigerian professional and amateur league. The tournament, according to Yusuf Ageni, the corporate affairs adviser of Nigerian Breweries, will provide an opportunity for coaches and players to sharpen their football skills.
The first and second runners up will take home N2m and N1m respectively in the competition that will be played in 24 cities in three geographical zones of the country that is Lagos, East and Midwest. Twelve teams will emerge at knock out phase for the final showdown in Lagos. The games will be played in enclosed venues with astro-turf endorsed by FIFA.
