Nnewi—Elders and youths of Aboji, Akanano Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, yesterday, protested in Oba against what they called “unfair treatment and act of intimidation,” allegedly perpetrated by some indigenes of Aboji Akanano against Nze Dozie Nweke, who is contesting for the President General, PG, of Aboji Akanano community.

The protesters alleged that the election while on-going on January 5, mid way, the returning officer cancelled it because Dozie Nweke was leading, and it was rescheduled for January 7, and on that day, people trouped out to vote and mid way into it again, when the Returning Officer discovered that Nze Nweke will carry the day, having seen the number of people queuing behind him, cancelled it the second time after a discussion with some people and rescheduled it again for January 15, 2016.

Wielding placards with inscriptions as, the youths said they will never allow the election to be rigged against the popular candidate.

Addressing newsmen shortly after their protest in the villages in Oba, spokesmen of the protesting Oba people, Mr. Chidiebere Madunagu, who is the chairman, Youths Welfare Association of Aboji Akanano, and Izuchukwu Chukwuemeka, who is the Public Relations Officer, Youths Welfare Association respectively, said they want free and fair election.

They said that the villages that make up Aboji Akanano, namely, Awee, Umuokeokpa, Okpunetiti, Umumpama, Umuezeala, Umuaba and Umuorabem were behind them and want the popular candidate to win the election and will not accept any imposition on them, adding that they would not accept anybody that was not from the community to be part of the election like those who want to rig the election were trying to draft them to vote.
“You can see that we are protesting against planned rigging out of the popular candidate, Nze Nweke, who won the election two times, but his victories were cancelled.”
