YENAGOA—MOST ex-militant leaders in Bayelsa State, yesterday, failed to honour the invitation by the state command of the Nigeria Police to attend a meeting over the intelligence report on security threat against the conduct of the re-run election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and 101 units across six councils in the state.

The meeting, according to the letter of invitation dated December 31, 2015, was convened by the state Police Command through the office of the State Intelligence Bureau, led by Ondo Gbekumo.

Though the meeting was considered mandatory by the police command, a source at the meeting confirmed that only two ex-militant leaders, Pastor Reuben Wilson and Mr Joshua MacIver, attended the session held behind closed doors.

Other ex-militant leaders, including the former second in command in the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, Ebikabowei Victor-Ben, known as ‘General’ Boyloaf, Africanus Ukparasia, Eris Paul, also known as Ogunboss, among others,  were absent at the meeting.

The spokesman of the state Police Command, Astimin Butwat, who confirmed the development, said, “Two ex-militant leaders attended the scheduled stakeholders meeting. The discussions were fruitful.”
